白内障とは、眼の中にある水晶体(カメラのレンズの役割を行う組織)が加齢による変化を起こし、眼の中に入った光が、網膜の上で焦点をきれいに結べなくなったり、水晶体が白く濁り眼の中に光が十分に入らなくなった状態をいいます。そのほとんどが老化によるもので、80歳以上の多数の方が何らかの形で白内障の症状を引き起こしているといわれています。 自覚症状は白内障のタイプにより異なります。視界が白く濁ってきた場合は、かすみが強くなるため早く気がつきますが、水晶体に光が通りにくくなった場合は、眼鏡をかけたり、眼鏡の度数を変えることで改善されるため、白内障の進行に気がつかない場合があります。 一時的に老眼鏡無しで近くのものが見えやすくなったら、それは白内障に良くみられる初期症状です。早めの診察をおすすめします。
